Featured Customer: Richard Sherman

With the right products and the correct support amazing things can be created, even with limited experience with composites as Richard Sherman would soon find out. Richard's custom 1988 Chrysler Conquest (aka Mitsubishi Starion) is a very rare car indeed, even in stock form. However, this Conquest is even more unique with a heavily modified chassis, drivetrain, and body! The wheelbase has been widened by nearly six inches with a custom perimeter framed chassis underneath a formerly unibody structure. The body has also been channeled to sit three inches lower. With the wider wheelbase and lower body this presented some challenges in the fenders of this custom Conquest. Richard scoured the internet trying to find examples of fender flares that he could use as a model to create his own custom fenders, but to no avail. With his build being one of kind he would have to start from scratch and create his own custom fenders.

“With my limited experience with fiberglass and carbon fiber, there was little support from suppliers available until I found Fibre Glast through YouTube. The expertise of the sales team provided me with everything I needed in one place.”

复合制造是一种艺术形式。如果你能count on the consistency of the products you use then the learning curves are limited to your own expertise as a builder. Richard wanted the challenge and the overall satisfaction of creating his own, one-off parts. Richard expertly designed his parts in a manner that would be suitable for mold manufacturing.

So, he started from the ground up, usingChavant Auto Style industrial design clayto meticulously sculpt the form for his finished fenders. From these plugs he created a final mold which he could then use to create his finished carbon fiber fenders.

After some sanding and polishing the custom fenders were complete and were a perfect fit for this custom 1988 Chrysler Conquest! Richard has started the process of painting these custom fenders to match the existing body color. Keep up the great work Richard!
